Painted by Nature

Denali National Park & Preserve
Alaska, USA

The first time I saw “Valley of the Yosemite”, a painting by renowned American painter Albert Bierstadt, my reaction wasn’t so kind.  Not because the scene itself wasn’t beautiful, but because it felt, using today’s vernacular, over processed.  Probably because I hadn’t witnessed such moments first hand yet as I was only eleven years old the first time I saw it.

Years, even decades, later I have now witnessed many such moments. It makes me think that perhaps time is truly our educator.  (Oh man!, that means I have to admit my mom & dad were right about some stuff.)

This stunning mountain scene is one such moment, where everything looks like someone made it up and put it on a canvas.  We must remember though that even painters work from things they’ve seen.  In this case we work with what we’re shown.

See Ya On the Trail!
