Up a River, Without a Paddle

The Snake River
Idaho, USA

This has to be the most expensive photograph I’ve ever taken.  On our first attempt down, or should I say up, the Snake River – we clogged the jet boat intake with small boulders (not rocks, not sand, fist size is what we’re talking about here) which kept us from starting the engine, so we drifted down the Snake at the mercy of the river - $11k later, the boat was fixed.

On our second attempt we made it, but then clogged the intake with a mossy substance, which required me to get into the fast moving and frigid water & dive under the boat to get it all out.  Having arrived late in the afternoon, we spent the night.  The next morning was perfect – as you can see.  The trip back out though was anything but perfect, another $9k later, the boat was fixed.

But this time I got the twenty thousand dollar image.  Only time will tell if it was ‘worth it’, but the experience was.

See Ya On the Trail!
