This was the morning I was to meet Dmitry. He had come all the way from Russia to attend my Canyons workshop. Since then he and I have become wonderful friends. It causes me to pause, being a red, white and blue blonde hair blue eyed American guy, to think about how relationships are formed. By all accounts, given the era I grew up in and the current state of affairs between our two countries, we shouldn’t have gotten along. Ideological differences should have kept that from happening – but it didn’t.
For me this image will always hold special meaning, because in my warped thinking I hold out hope for world peace – if a Russian and an American can become great friends in the face of turmoil between their two respective countries, then why can’t the rest of the world?
Perhaps like this locations namesake “Horseshoe”, it’s time we take another route to peace.
