A Wilderness Oasis

The Eagle Cap Wilderness
Oregon, USA

It was just supposed to have been a simple four day back country trip into the wilds of Eastern Oregon and the famous Eagle Cap Wilderness.  At least that’s what we thought.

Only three weeks prior I had changed out the inner liners in my (absolutely fantastic) mountaineering boots as the old ones had worn out.  A couple minor blisters from a day hiking in the Desolation Wilderness and I was good to go, or so I thought.

We were fifteen miles back and had just come up three miles of near vertical trail – fully loaded when the ‘healed’ blisters from the Desolation returned.  And let me tell you - they had been small before but these had somehow turned into super caldera volcanic size blisters with lava and everything.  Enter stage left & right….the duck tape.

So there I was tromping around the muck & mud of the lily pond in my bare feet coated with Deet, to keep the horseflies, mosquitoes, gnats, black flies and the no-see’ms off.  It took a bit to find just the right angle, as often it can in the wilderness while creating refreshingly new compositions, but I think I got it.

See Ya On the Trail!
