2nd Beach Sunset
Olympic National Park
So I thought I would just hop in the truck and take an afternoon drive up to Olympic National Park. After all how far away could it be from Portland? LeeAnna kept telling me that I should probably get going, as I kept prolonging my departure. You see this was the night of a simultaneous sunset / crescent moonset. Well to make a very long story short, due to space available here, I took off.
Nearly six hours later I arrived at the trailhead. Six hours! It was already well past late afternoon and I could tell it wouldn't be long before the sun would say its farewell for the day. I had yet to load the 8x10 film into the film holders and quickly did, recalling that I should at least take enough time to do it correctly (unlike an earlier trip just a few weeks prior where I put all the film in backwards...needless to say I was not a happy camper.)
The hike in is a short one, just over a mile, and I ran just about the entire length of it to the seashore. This was my first visit here and the overwhelming beauty of the place knocked me for a loop. I hustled to find a spot or two and set up this image just in time. Another composition came after this one, with the moon in it, strikingly different just as beautiful.
The hike out was in total darkness.... I actually had to 'feel' my way back to the truck.
